Crunchy Fruit - Organica Strawberries
What is this thing?
Freeze-dried fruits are fruits obtained following a water sublimation method.
This technique involves removing water from fruits, first by freezing, then by transforming the water molecules into steam. In other words, the water contained in the fruits is removed by a freezing process in order to preserve them more easily. Therefore, freeze-drying is also called cold drying.
But for what purpose?
The main advantage of freeze-dried fruits is the space saving. Water accounts for about 80% of the total weight of the fruit. Do the math. Save space in your home and space astronauts in their rocket. As surprising as it may seem, freeze-dried fruits have the same taste and appearance as fresh fruits. The aroma, shape and flavors are thus perfectly preserved. And it doesn't stop there! One of the biggest advantages of freeze-dried fruits is the shelf life. Indeed, if stored properly, it can be consumed for two years. In comparison, dried fruits have a shelf life of only one year. Unlike normal fruits which can be stored for one to four weeks for the hardiest ones.
What does that say about health?
Freeze-dried fruits preserve macronutrients, i.e. proteins, lipids, carbohydrates as well as minerals . This method is also characterized by an exceptionally low loss of vitamins compared to conventionally dried or frozen products.
Similarly, most fresh fruits contain significant amounts of acids, which must be oxidized by the body to maintain stable blood pH.
Especially for thin and chilly people, eating fresh fruit is not recommended in winter. Even with a low fruit consumption, the latter will have a lot of trouble oxidizing these acids. As a result, to neutralize them, the body will be forced to draw on its mineral bases.
However, with freeze-dried fruits, there is no such problem! In fact, they have lost their acids.
From the astronaut to you!
In general, freeze-dried fruits are consumed by athletes who practice outdoor activities (cycling, hiking, kayaking, etc.) who have specific nutritional needs or anyone who wants to do their morning run on Mars. To be a little more realistic, freeze-drying affects people who vary their diet or those who simply want to prepare a food reserve.
